    Isella

Someone in the group of people began to move. Slowly, at first, then quicker. He was a tall man, and from what she could see in the plaid light, very handsome. A long coat swayed around his ankles. Behind him trailed another man. shorter and less intelligent looking, his eyes glued to the tall one, following his every motion like a puppy.

Isella felt herself swaying in and out of consciousness. The dragon tightened his hold, and hissed at the man that was coming for her. Then suddenly, he vanished. Isella blinked.

    I’m fainting again.

In another instant he reappeared at her side. Blackness pummeled the edges of her vision, but through the mist she could see another man moving. He was tall, taller even than the first, and dressed in some sort of armor they didn’t have in Archendale. He trained a light on the dragon, piercing it’s blue eye. The huge beast blinked and wavered.

A noise like thunder tore through the cave, splitting her aching head. The dragon reeled–he’d been hit. The pressure on Isella’s lungs became almost unbearable. She choked, gasping for air.

The man beside her was doing something, quickly. If he had been any other man, she would have thought it was almost frantically, but this man’s movements had nothing of desperation about them.  He was working on cutting the dragon’s tail.

Isella shuddered. It might save her life, but it would make a mess. sight and memory swirled.

Blue fire gushed from the dragon’s mouth, engulfing the armored man. Isella wanted to scream, but there was no air left. The tail that was surrounding her convulsed, drawing tighter as the creature started to die.

It’s huge head swiveled around, aiming the fire at her and the man who worked to free her.

“Go!” she shouted the word, but she only had enough air to make it sound like a whisper. He only worked faster.

The creature’s eyes bulged with rage and pain. Die it must, but take other’s with it it would.

The reeking blue flame curled around it’s nostrils and burst out, coming with sickening speed toward Isella and her rescuer.

She fought against the faintness that tugged her toward unconsciousness.Something was pulling at the back of her mind. Something she must remember. something she could do, but she had to have a hand free.

    He’ll die if I don’t. He won’t leave. He won’t–

She struggled to raise an arm, but they were pinned to her side. The iron coils of flesh that held her tightened. Consciousness slid away as the heat and reek engulfed her. Then the tail lashed out, striking at the man whose knife was biting into it.

For a moment she could breathe, and consciousness revived in a painful rush.

the man crumpled. Blue fire lapped at his boots–the main thrust of the blast would be on them soon, and it would be too late.

She raised her hand. Time stood still, as she knew it would, and the fire paused. But it could only be for an instant.

The man leaped to his feet.

    Then she fainted.

@rusted-knight The armored man was Klein.

@irishcelticredflowercrown The man who’s helping to rescue her is Locran, and the puppy-dog follower is his devoted Daire

@inkhorn I’d love it if Kahlon could be involved, but I don’t know him well enough to write him, so it’s up to you if you want to include him or not. 🙂
