Hey! Anybody’s welcome here, you included… but as to whether you want to stick around, well of that there may be some doubt. 😉 (In fact I’m surprised there’s people still commenting on this thread after @evelyn and mine’s…uh…crazy rabbit trail. 😆)
I think I agree with you for the most part…although I was talking about violence in general, not necessarily extreme violence. (But then again, people’s definitions of extreme violence differ, so my idea of “general violence” may be “extreme violence” to you…I don’t know.)
I definitely agree that an overabundance of violence-especially depending on the target audience-can actually detract from the story and having your characters emotionally struggle does have a big impact on the story and often on the readers as well. That said, people often struggle emotionally after experiencing something violent…so there’s that aspect too.
There are less violent details (I feel) that could just as easily immerse readers into the experience.Yes, I agree…I think a lot of it has to do with the ability of the writer. If you can craft a well written scene that is violent or has violence in it, but not be “too” graphic-give the details sparingly-and still give your readers a very emotional and gripping experience, well than I would think you are pretty awesome! 😀
I think a lot of it has to do with what your message is too. If you are trying to write a message of violence…well, then that’s what your going to give. But if you have a message entirely different, I think that the way you present violence will come across completely different.
Hmmm…so maybe it’s just about how you present violence??…if you present it as something to glory in…or if you present it as a sad result of our falleness, something that needs the light and hope of Christ shed upon…hmmm…🤔 This is a new thought for me…
