Rei woke up with her face pressed up to a worn t-shirt. Frozen, she looked up to see it was Delton carrying her.

“I’m awake,” she said quietly, and the man’s face whipped down at her. He quickly set her on her feet and looked away, rubbing his neck. Rei stepped away. She needed to stay away from all of these people. These were them. Those characters in progress that could be hurt or killed at any time and not come back since their stories weren’t published.

“I probably shouldn’t use much magic so far away from my world,” she mumbled. Rei was two jumps away from her nest, which normally wasn’t far enough away to lose her powers, but something was sapping her. She could still sense vague amount of power and auras around each of the people around her, but that map usually only took a scrap of her power and not that much effort, but with this unknown entity hovering, she seemed to be useless.

Her limbs felt tingly and her knees weak, but Rei ignored it and looked around her a the room they had entered. It was high-vaulted and looked like a cathedral. Rei’s eyes widened and she attempted to scramble out of the room, but she tripped on the hem of her haori and fell to the intricately tiled ground.

“I can’t be here,” she whispered softly, “no. I can’t be here.”
