Megyn’s heart hammered in her ears. Adrenaline pounded through her as fear tried to close it’s icy hands around her. He was with her; but the sword felt so heavy; how could she swing it? And-And kill someone? She inhaled slowly. “I’m not afraid. You can not kill me unless One allows you.”
The soldier laughed. “Don’t be foolish, girl. Lay down the sword or you will not live.”
“I’d rather be a fool than a coward.” She retorted. Drawing a deep breath, she stepped towards him and raised the sword.
Someone dashed across the courtyard. ( @introverted-elf ) Soldiers around her shouted and gave chase. The one before her turned his head slightly, distracted by the commotion. “Now!!”Her mind screamed.”Swing it!!”
“Hey! Get to safety!” Someone dressed in leather and browns charged the soldiers and began fighting them. The one soldier spun away from her and rushed into the fray.”Engage him, men. And get those girls!”
Her mind raced. “Should I retreat and let them cut him down or risk being killed when there’s a boy bleeding out who needs help?”
Shutting her teeth, she swung her sword against the back of one of the soldiers. As he staggered and slumped over, she bolted to the wall and stood, panting and wide-eyed. She’d stand by and see if things got too . . . ugly. If they did–she didn’t want to think about it. Wounding a man was terrible enough but killing? She shuddered.
(this good?)
