@gabbyj Wasn’t Robin Hood basically a communist though? That said, I remember reading a book about him and he seemed to have done some good things. I like your idea of a criminal using his skills for non-criminal purposes. I actually just read a story with that basic idea.

A lot’s already been said, but I’m going to try and see if I can add to the discussion of how criminals can add to a story.

First, I think criminal types are great for exploring broken family dynamics. If I remember correctly, this was done very well in Les Mis and A Tale of Two Cities. In our culture, it’s probably something that’s needed.

Criminals are also great for exploring poverty and wealth and if morality is absolute or not.
