Damian slowly awakes, his shoulder had gone asleep. He opens his eyes and soon sees why. The winged girl was leaning against it, fast asleep. Her wings were wrapped around both of them, keeping the warmth inside. He shifts a little doing his best not to wake her up. It had been an exhausting several hours. Ever so carefully he slides her head off his shoulder and onto the tree. Pulling off his leather jacket he folds it and slips it under her head, allowing her somewhat of a soft place to lay her head.
After making sure she is still asleep, he turns and heads off into the forest. It had stopped snowing during the night and the ground glistened in the gray light of the dawn. He crouches in a bush, listening and waiting. Finally he spots what he is looking for and pounces…
Later…
He wonders back towards camp, more wood for the smoldering fire in one hand and a freshly killed rabbit in the other. He walks a little slowly, enjoying the cool crisp air on his skin and the early morning sun warming his face and head. He reaches camp, relieved that she is still asleep. After stoking the fire, he cleans the rabbit and sets it over the fire to cook. He looks up at the still sleeping figure. Her nose twitches as she smells the cooking rabbit, followed by her eyes opening. Damian’s mouth curves upward a tad in the closest thing he had to a smile. “Good morning.”
