Hey guys! *waves* So about a year ago I wrote a little bit of a poem directed at the villains of stories, asking them if they were happy with who they were and what they did. Then recently I wrote the villain’s answer…

Here’s the first part, the question put to the villain.

Blood stains in the shape of men
on the marble floor,
and the cries of anguish
from the families of the dead.

Thorns in your crown,
poison in your cup,
each step to your seat
marked in blood.

Life and love stolen from the eyes
of those you love the most
and your own heart,
still beating, but torn out.

Can you stand under the weight
of what it has cost you?
Are you happy
now you have your throne?

And now here’s the villain’s response…

My throne is pieced together
from remnants of kingdoms overthrown,
and you ask if I think it is comfortable?

The great hall is decorated in
the black of shadowed betrayal and dried blood-red,
and you ask if I like the colors?

I have no place to go but a castle
haunted by the ghosts of the betrayed,
and you ask if I enjoy the company?

Fear is the only way I can rule,
by ending those who speak out against me,
and you ask if I am happy?

Foolish man.
You have no real idea of what it’s like…
But the answer’s simple, really.

Yes.

Yes, my throne is quite comfortable;
I had it custom made.

Yes, of course I like the colors;
I picked them myself.

Yes, the company is delightful;
we’re old friends now, the ghosts and I.

Yes, I’m happy; why would I not be?
I’m on top of the world
and nothing can bring me down.

What do y’all think? Any thoughts? What was your original idea as to what the villain’s response would be?
