Megyn lay still, her eyes still pressed shut. Slowly, she drew her knees up to her chest and curled herself up, whispering faintly “I can’t . . .  I can’t give up.”

But she lay still. Slowly, she drew a heavy breath and swallowed hard against a rising sob. Reaching over her shoulders, she feebly slid the cello from her back and let it rest on the ground behind her.

Pushing her hand against the ground, she tried to lift herself up. But instead, she sagged back to the ground and covered her face with both hands. I can’t  . . . 

Her eyes closed as the world around her began to dim.
