Straightening her back, Megyn stumbled on. Her teeth gritted as she stepped on another stone.

As she grabbed a limb for support, her eyes caught a flicker of light through the trees. What was that? she thought as she caught her breath. Hesitantly, she took a step forward, eyes ahead on the tiny flame of light, half-hidden by trees.

Something in her next step tripped her. She sank to the ground, eyes and mouth squeezed shut in pain.
