Depending on how era specific you are trying to be, you may not even give him a last name. Last names were not coined until late in the middle ages, or it may have even been into the Renaissance. I don’t remember exactly. But especially as early as the 10th century people were known by their parentage, just as you read in the Bible. (Ex: John, the son of Zebedee).

I don’t have a specific list of names for that time period on hand, but I know you can Google Medieval boy’s names and find huge lists.
