Happy New Year everyone! I’m back with another entry.

Runawin shivered as Lucas’s footsteps faded behind her. She waited a moment, hoping he might come back, but only silence met her ears. Sighing, she trotted towards the hallway she’d smelled. A hole appeared in the hall—another tunnel barely large enough for her to fit inside without her ears bending against the roof. Lucas wouldn’t have been able to come with her even if he’d wanted to.

She crawled inside, then hesitated. Stale, musty air enveloped her—she could just barely sense a draft. Dust dotted the floor beneath her paws and tickled her nose. Her breath was hacked off in a cough.

What now? Wherever this led, it could be worse than the hallway had been. Maybe she should’ve just stayed with Lucas. Already, the walls seemed to be closing in on her, and she was barely a tail-length inside. Who knew how long it would be? Where she would end up? Narrow as it was, there was no way she’d be able to turn around.

    Trapped.

She scrambled backwards and flung herself on the cold stone floor, gasping. Maybe it wasn’t too late to catch up with Lucas. Even if it meant going back into that creepy hallway, at least she wouldn’t be alone.

She turned to face the other hallway, but it was…

    Gone.

    “Eggweed,” she mutterd, turning back to the dusty tunnel. <span style=”display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: #ffffff; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia,’Times New Roman’,’Bitstream Charter’,Times,serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;”>What was </span><span style=”display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: #ffffff; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia,’Times New Roman’,’Bitstream Charter’,Times,serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;”>up with this place?</span> She scanned the room again, hoping that perhaps another hallway had appeared.

    Nothing.

    The tunnel, then.

She closed her eyes, her whisper echoing softly through the room, “Alpha, if you’re here in this strange place, I need courage.”
Then she clenched her jaw and ducked inside. The air smelled clearer this time—less suffocating. The knots in her stomach eased and she started making her way into the dark.

Then a screaming howl ripped the silence, and fear-scent suddenly overpowered the smell of musty tunnel.

    Her heart thundered.
