@kelly-lundgren Cool! I have a little bit of 1 in me as well. I’m a 9 w 1. 🙂
@morreafirebird I personally have found Enneagram much more personally helpful than MBTI – and I’m looking forward to using it in understanding my characters better – and how to give them realistic patterns of growth, depending on the personality that they are.
And YESSSSSS, the Sleeping At Last songs…… all of them, so beautiful. I listened to the explanation of the nine song the other day on his podcast, and it was so helpful. I really, really love how artistically deep his work is, and seeing an inside look at that was so cool. I really want to listen to all the other song explanations as well, but haven’t got a chance to do that yet.
@princess-foo I like that idea. So who is heading up the rescue mission? Or maybe I should just drive out to Hope’s house and break into her car… *grins slyly*
Hm. There’s a pretty big different between 1w9 and 9w1, even though they have the same numbers. If you’re confused, I would recommend looking into it on http://www.enneagraminstitute.com and other sites, if you can find them. I determined my type by reading the type descriptions first. I took the tests for fun to see if they would back that up, and they did. 😛 That way I got a feel for the whole system, and what the basic idea behind the whole Enneagram of personality is.
@lady-frosttongue Cool! There’s nothing embarrassing about being a type 6. The big idea behind the Enneagram is almost like finding out the different ways that people are broken, and how that motivates them in different ways. We all have a basic fear, a basic motivation.
For me, as a nine, I avoid conflict so much that I tend to take a half-step away from my own self, and don’t fully enter into my emotions and the ups and downs of life. At heart, I love peace, but instead I settle for calm, and mistakenly make that happen by not being fully present in the moment.
So don’t feel bad about being a six. Instead, I would encourage you to look into how the Enneagram can be helpful in showing us how to grow. For each number, when they are healthy, it means that they move alone the lines of the Enneagram symbol and start showing the traits of a different number. For me, that means I move to the healthy side of a three – engaged, a go-getter, and very productive. For you, that means moving to the healthy side of a nine!
It’s actually fascinating how it all works.
@catwing That’s interesting! So, actually, you have two wings – the numbers on either side of your type. Usually, one of these is much more dominant, so some people only teach that you have one wing. I’ve heard from people that you can actually pull from both sides at different times, and that makes more sense to me.
So I can’t really say what type you are. It’s interesting that you got those three numbers, though. If you want to get more certain about your type, I wouldn’t recommend taking any more tests – read up on the type descriptions – and particularly about the common mistypes on the http://www.enneagraminstitute.com website. Those were really helpful to me.
And on top of that, there’s even further you can go – each type has 3 subtypes, making for 27 unique combinations. 😛 So while you may not fit the main number completely, you’ll probably find your place under one of the subtypes. 🙂
They nine Enneagram numbers do not correspond directly to MBTI personality types. MBTI is a test that describes how your brain works in interpreting the outside world.
The Enneagram is measuring completely different aspects of personality. It’s about our fundamental brokenness, in a way, and helps describe the path we follow when we are deteriorating as a person, and the path we follow when we are becoming more and more healthy as a person.
But as @hope-ann said, there are common correlations. I saw an graphic recently that was pretty cool and summed it all up in one place. Let me see if I can find it. Ah. Here we go:

As an INFP, this does hold true for me, like it does for Hope, as she mentioned. What about you guys?
@seekjustice My sweater appreciates your concern, I’m sure. XP
Cool! Looks like we’ve got a lot of type 1 peeps here in Erekdale!

Wow! I love all the comments about this! I’ve only been researching the Enneagram for like two weeks, but I’ve been able to listen to a lot of podcasts (double-speed is awesome, y’all), and already feel like I know myself and my own motivations a ton more. Be aware that it isn’t necessarily a Christian thing, and some of the approaches you may hear are going to be kinda Eastern and mystical. I have been able to incorporate the basic ideas into my walk, but just thought I’d throw that caveat out there. 😛
