Aleck ran into the treasure room with the guards hot on his heels. Aleck dove behind some treasure, and the guards rushed past without seeing him. He quickly and quietly slipped the rubies out of the scarf to Ash. “Get them out of here. They won’t suspect you have them,” he whispered, glad no one had seen. Aleck watched Lord Deathrock’s back from through a semi-transparent huge glass vase. Then he drew his sword, threw his whole body weight at the vase, lunging at Deathrock.

“Karim, cut the small talk!” Aleck commanded.

Glass flew through the air in front of Aleck’s falling figure, and cards flying out of his pocket mingled with the glass. Aleck flew into Deathrock and the evil Lord fell to the ground beneath him The ground dropped out from beneath them, and the air began to spin and grow deathly cold from inside the huge glass bubble, held together by the magic cards.

Deathrock jumped up with incredible strength, and knocked Aleck easily away, shattering the ball. The glass shards flew around the room creating a dozen doorframes made of glass. In the center and each corner of every one hovered a card, pulling each glass shard with a strange sort of magnetism. Aleck blinked in surprise. This couldn’t be good. There was no way he had just done that. Malcom Ace had to be somewhere close by. Two villains colliding couldn’t be good… or could it?

Deathrock leapt towards him, and Aleck struggled to keep off the lord’s expert swordplay with his own first-time fencing. This wasn’t working. Aleck turned quickly and leapt through one of glass shard doorways, wishing it hadn’t come to this. To his surprise, he found himself in the same room, just in another part of it. He had come out of one of the other doors. He quietly stepped into another, and came out just behind Deathrock. Aleck stabbed quickly and quietly at Deathrock’s back, but the lord was just stepping through the  other doorway. Aleck saw him and the tip of Aleck’s sword protrude out another door, not the one it had linked to previously. This was so confusing.
