Vicq watched Aiden as he carried her through the temple tunnel. His chin was so hard and his eyes were angry. They went into a bigger room and she was set down on a cot, then a jacket was draped over her bare shoulders.

Aiden dipped to her level, holding her chin in his hand, “Vy, wake up.”

She tried, she really did, but there was too much of a fog around her mind. Aiden sighed and slipped off the leather necklace, gathering her mess of hair at the nape of her neck and tying it off. He brushed his fingers against her cheek and framed her face with his big hands. Aiden rested his forehead against Vicq’s and pressed a kiss against her lips.

“I love you, Vicq,” he whispered, “So, please, please wake up. I won’t ever let you out of my sight. No, never again.”

Aiden wrapped his arms around her and held his mate against his body.

“Please just go back to the way you were. Beautiful and fiery and wolflike.”

She tried, and almost got there.

“Aiden,” she croaked, “I’m here”
