@the-fledgling-artist I largely second Daeus… I do think that the Christian understanding of the nature of man (created in the Imago Dei but corrupted due to the Fall) ought to strengthen the way we depict our characters and our understanding of Fall and redemption should impact the plots of our stories (see: Tolkien’s idea of the Eucatastrophe). And, as Daeus said, I also believe that our stories should be more clearly infused with meaning. However, there have also been some very good secular authors who can understand many truths accurately through general revelation, including the afore-mentioned ones.
I think that there is a difference (at least in my experience) being well-written secular and well-written Christian stories I’ve read given the different worldview standpoints, but I’m hard-pressed to say it’s a difference between the quality of writing as opposed to being a difference between communicated worldviews.
