@pookiemonster There is a surprisingly robust argument that Jar Jar is in fact a dark force user who is directly and maliciously responsible for many events in the prequels.

There are great videos and Reddit posts that I wentw bother finding now because I’m on mobile, but a good amount of the argument lies in ep 1:

    • There is a character in a book called Ringworld who is JJ levels of extremely clumsy and dumb. And lucky. Due to genetically-determined psionic power. Which is the explanation for the Force via Midichlorians. Lucas ripped off other sci fi books and stories of the day, so this would fit his MO.
    • JJ lives on the same planet as Palpatine.
    • JJ seems to be feared by the other Gungans. He was apparently banished for clumsiness, but what sort of clumsiness demands the death penalty?
    • The combination of the above leads people to believe Palpatine found JJ due to high latent force potential and trained him as a minion. The theory goes JJ did something unnatural and frightening to his people, leading to his exile.
    • JJ seems to be making odd movements on screen at moments when important conversations are occuring, suggesting he may be using Force suggestion. This is only really supported because animations are expensive for full CGI characters, and there is no reason to make JJ arbitrarily move when he isn’t in focus.
    • There is a seeming plot hole in Ep 1 when the ship needs repairs, leading the gang to Tattooine. The need for repair seems random, and it’s never revealed how Palpatine knew the game would be on Tattooine. However, JJ is shown going into the engine room. If he was evil at this point, he could have sabotaged the ship and contacted Palpatine.
    • Basically, it is believed JJ was originally intended to be the real Phantom Menace, and that ep 1 was actually full of brilliant foreshadowing.
    • Lucas has stated he was crushed by the negative response to JJ in ep 1. He thought JJ would be a fan favorite. Due to this, he said, we see much less JJ in later movies. This could point to JJ having been intended to be more important in RotS.

And the two most meaningful pieces:

    • Aasimov’s Foundation series, a series with which Lucas would have surely been familiar, involves a psionic mutant capable of manipulating the emotions of others who pretends to be a goofy idiot so he can conquer the galaxy. He succeedes.
    • WhenWhe foundfout about the Darth JarJar theory, JJ’s voice actor tweeted this: “I will say this, it feels really good when the hidden meaning behind the work is seen. No matter how long it takes. #TPM”
