@steward-of-the-pen Yep! I love it so much. We don’t have a lake (sadly). We have a nice two-story house we built ourselves (my dad, mom, a couple uncles, grandpa, and a couple friends). We hired some people to do the shingles, pour the foundation, and lay the bricks, but otherwise we did it with just family members, and without taking out a loan. ItΒ took us about 7 and a half years, and there’s still a bit of work to do, like painting some trim, making some drawers for the bathroom cabinets, etc, but it’s awesome! π We also own 217 acres a little ways down, on the next county road, that we hunt on a lot.
@christlover Neat!
I think I’ve heard of some of them. My favorite song artists are: Backstreet Boys, Shawn Mendes, Panic! At The Disco, Home Free (vocal band) and I’ve been listening to some of Billy Joel’s songs. I’ve heard of Tolkien and Lewis. Favorite authors are definitely Chris Colfer, Eoin Colfer, Edgar Allen Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Brandon Sanderson, and J. K. Rowling. At the moment, I’m actually grounded from reading any books besides school books (and the Bible obviously) because I was reading so much, it was getting in the way of school. Heh. So I’m annoyed at myself for that. But as soon as I get un-grounded, I’m gonna ask if I can read Harry Potter. (Parents wanted me to be a bit older until I read/watched the series. At least the last time I asked) I’ve kinda spoiled the series for myself by semi-accidentally reading stuff about it on Pinterest and such, so I wanna hurry up and read it before I know any more, lol. Oohh yes! The Princess Bride is AWESOMEEEEE!! π π My favorite movies/TV shows: Princess Bride, M*A*S*H*, and The Greatest Showman. Favorite quotes are: “I have not failed. I’ve only found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” ~Edison, “Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.” ~Sherlock Holmes (by Doyle), “You killed my father. Prepare to die.” ~Montoya, (well, all the quotes from that movie, really, lol), and “My father will hear about this!” ~Draco Malfoy (from Harry Potter. See what I mean? I’ve read too many spoilers!!)
I play table tennis (as I mentioned above), and other than that, and ultimate frisbee, I don’t really play any sports as much as I watch them. My dad and I both are fans of basketball and baseball, so we watch a lot of games. Some of my friends play tennis. I’m trying to learn Italian, but I haven’t had time.
I think the funniest scene I’ve written is probably the one where my MC (Kiel) and his sidekick’s cousin (Rowan) are facing off over which side of this mountain they’re gonna take. Cause they’re doing this thing (I don’t wanna spoil it for you so I won’t go into all the details) and they have to have separate sides of the mountain. Anyways, they’re arguing over who gets to pick his side first, and the conversation goes something like this:
___________
“I’m Hazel’s cousin, and of royal blood, so I should get to pick first. You’re just an orphaned street boy,” Rowan said.
Kiel frowned, ignoring the pain that accompanied the word ‘orphaned.’
“Yeah well you’re only her second cousin, and besides, I’ve known her since she was 12.”
Rowan crossed his arms, refusing to back down, and Kiel turned his back, walked over to a nearby tree and took a few deep breaths. Finally, he said,
“Look, we’re both acting like children. If we can’t even have a civilized conversation without breathing insults down each other’s backs, we’re never going to be able to survive a month up here.”
Rowan looked sheepish, and nodded.
Kiel snapped a twig off of the tree, broke it into two pieces, and held them in his hand, towards Rowan.
“Whoever gets the longer one chooses their side first.”
Rowan hesitated, then pulled out the one on his left. After comparing the twigs, Rowan held his up triumphantly, and said,
“I’ll be on the west side, if you end up needing help.”
___________
Anyways, a few weeks after this, Rowan has run out of food, he’s injured, half-frozen, and ends up swallowing his pride and goes to find Kiel. And he (Rowan) remembers the conversation they had, and with a grim smirk, realizes he himself is the one needing help, and his words came back to bite him. Anyways. I probably have a funnier one somewhere, but this is the one I thought of. Sadly, I can’t let anybody read the actual excerpt, because this is in the second book (which isn’t finished) and I don’t want to reveal it quite yet. π But as a little bit of background, Kiel (and Rowan as well, I think) is 19. He was orphaned when he was about 7. He’s a wizard in training, (a good wizard) and his friend Hazel is a professional spy, and she’s… 18? I don’t remember, lol. Yeah, she’s 18. Cause in the end of the first book she has her party. Yeah. Anyway. Yeah, and Hazel’s dad’s cousin (who would be Hazel’s first cousin, once removed??) and his kids (who would then be her second cousins?? I looked all this up once..) come over to visit, and Kiel and Rowan (Rowan being the oldest cousin) don’t like each other. They don’t want to admit it, but they both like Hazel, and they know they both like her, and neither one wants the other to be her boyfriend. Oh, and this is set back in the… oh geeze.. Like not medieval times, but like a little past that? It’s fantasy, so like it’s hard to tell exactly. There aren’t cars or anything. But the point I was trying to make is this: It’s set in a time that it wasn’t uncommon to marry your cousins. Like first cousins, probably not, but definitely you could marry a second cousin.
Well I gotta go now, but have an awesome rest of your day! π (I wish I could write this much this fast when working on my WIPs, lol. I could crank out a short novel in about a month)
