Here’s another funny poem I wrote to try out a different style. Let me know what you think (critiques are welcome!)
The King and the Spider
The Knights came nigh to the young, brave king
To find the truth to his lofty claims.
The King came down from his esteemed mare.
The Knight’s question puzzled the black spider:
“Oh my lord, is it true that you fear nothing?”The King’s laugh rattled the poor black spider
and nearly scared off his trembling mare
He asked the Knights “Do you really question?
“Hear the truth, my friends, not a stupid claim:
“Dear Knights, what on earth scares a young brave king?”The Knights agreed and so did the mare
And the King also had a lingering question:
“Knights, tell me who made such a foolish claim?”
And the King’s voice boomed, it inspired the spider
So he leaped to the face of the helpless king. And the flurry there brought a much different question
For the Knights heard a squeal from the brave young King.
Everyone knew the answer, and so did the mare
but none dared make such a painful claim
for the Brave King shrieked over one small spider. So if you’re ever haughty on a darling mare
and you willingly make such a pompous claim
that you fear nothing like the poor young king
Then think real hard about the screech and the spider
And don’t invite such a dangerous question.
