– < ? > –
Lin, later in his life, would have liked to say that he wasn’t surprised when he found himself tumbling through a crystalline blue sky. Lots of crazy things had happened in his day, more so than he could count; and the older he got, the more frequent it became. One would kind of assume that the more it happened, the less surprising it would be.
Well, that was false. Immediately false, and in every way, false. One moment, Lin was happily in his own world, minding his own business, completely forgetful of the odd events in which he had earlier partaken with in the company of a bunch of weird people (not to mention the creepy old lady who had vanished into thin air), and then he was tumbling through the sky.
Lin proceeded to do what any normal person would do in this situation.
He screamed.
Lin, a fifteen-year-old, manlier-than-some, taller than most people his age and one who had taken on many insane things in his short lifespan, screamed like a little girl as he fell. He knew it was the end. As he fell, he was thinking in his head that he’d really like to end his life with more dignity, but regardless of his proud desire for a noble end he couldn’t stop shrieking. It just got louder as he saw the ground get closer. Feeling quite sick and overwhelmed with terror, he squeezed his eyes shut.
WHAM!
He hit something. It didn’t feel quite like the ground. Also, it didn’t hurt as much as he thought it would (though, admittedly, he was still pretty sure he had shattered every bone in his body). Moaning and rather sure that he was full of fatal internal bleeding, he rolled off of whatever it was that he hit, clutching his stomach. Was he going to throw-up? He didn’t want to throw up. That never felt nice. Gasping fiercely, he tried to scrape in as much breath as he could before peeling his eyes open to find a blurry world.
Some person was collapsed beside him. It was a woman, with a top-hat, and a long black trench-coat. She looked like she wanted to kill him.
A lovely face to see right before he died. Splendid.
Lin turned over onto his other side, still very much in pain, hoping that the end would come quickly.
