@kate I love that idea! I think we could use what @chalice said too; maybe there are different fire pixies for each house, and someone just moved into a mansion that’s been abandoned for years, meaning he’s never met these fire pixies, and they happen to be the opposite of whatever general character we choose to give them…

As for the character of the fire pixies, I see two paths that stand out in particular, but I’m open to other ideas too.

1. The pixies are mean and cruel, which makes the job of the chimney sweep just as miserable as the real-life chimney sweeps were (and could make the no-reward at the end even more powerful? not sure, just thinking out loud…)

2. The pixies are kind, but the chimney sweep masters don’t know it- so while they think they’re making the boys do the worst job ever, and the boys let them believe it because they don’t want the joyous job taken away, the boys are actually having the time of their life. If we take this path, there are some cool potentials for the ending… maybe the chimney sweep actually has a choice between a new life and an old life, and stays with the old life because he doesn’t want to say goodbye to his fire pixie friends?

Ooh, maybe they could be generally cruel, and he’s dreading the new house, but then the ones there are kind, and he’s glad that he landed the job, but another chimney sweep is trying to get the job too, but at the house before that one, our chimney sweep overhears the plot, and he’s trying to tell the servants at the mansion but no one will listen, and it’s time for the chimney to be cleaned, but if he stays to clean it he won’t have time to stop the plot, and if he doesn’t stay the other chimney sweep will be given the job… that would create an extremely difficult conflict. Risk his life to try and save someone he’s never met (likely royalty, or gentry), or let them (almost certainly) be killed in order to keep his new pixie friends, the only joy in his weary life.

…did that come out in a way that any of you can understand? I’m not always coherent when I’m brainstorming. XD
