@the-inkspiller redemption in under 1,500 words is quite a tall order…and a great challenge 😉

I like the first idea a lot, though I think perhaps he can do something worse earlier on. Perhaps he volunteers for that assignment as the war begins, because he’s afraid? But his central conflict (choosing to stay or go) would be quite powerful. Especially if he has a decent amount of guilt going into it. All that being said, it seems a like a lot to explain/imply in under 1,500 words, but if you do it right, I think it’s possible 😀

The second idea sounds interesting as well, and a bit easier to explain. So I’d think the second would be easier to keep under 1,500 words, but I’m personally more intrigued by the first idea. 😉
