Alessio glanced up as Nathair wandered off. He’d noticed Leana seemed to sympathize with the man, and Nathair was so good with words, he’d use that to his advantage Alessio knew. But if he said anything, if he said too much he’d kill him.

Biting his lip, Alessio curled his knees into his chest. The pounding of his own heart thudded against him nauseatingly. He stared fixedly at his toes, speaking too fast in a low monotone.

“Hey,” he said “leave him alone. He doesn’t…respond to kindness.”

Not well at least.

Alessio still couldn’t bear saying his name or even thinking it. He should be terrified but he felt completely calm, like a none of this was real and it was all happening to someone else sort of calm.
