“I told him he needed to give her flowers, but he didn’t follow my genius advice.” Arsene chirped. Are you done!?!? HE DIDN’T HAVE A CRUSH ON LEANA HE DIDN’T!!!!! WHY WAS EVERYONE TORMENTING HIM LIKE THIS!?!?!?!?!
“Bold words from someone thinks robbing a bank is the perfect way to get a date with his girlfriend.” Alessio grumbled under his breath. “And I don’t have the time or the energy to be romantically interested in anybody right now!”
Raising her eyebrows, Leana looked from Nathair to Arsene to him and Alessio bet she was intentionally ignoring…all of it.
“I always wanted a sister, too.” She said, “I begged my mom for one, thought it doesn’t really make a difference.”
With a small, fond laugh, Leana began methodically wrapping her foot with the cloth. He’d torn it from the end of his clothes, not the best substitute bandage but it worked. She cast a glance at his hand for a second. Oh, right… It…might need some stitches, he could do that if he just had some thread and a needle…
“Finally, after I got a knave of a brother, one came. Her name’s Bethan.” She looked up at him brightly. “Do you have any brothers?”
Alessio nodded and smiled shyly, looking down.
“I have an older brother, Leander. He was older than me, so he was a lot…busier, and I didn’t see him very often. But whenever he did come home he always brought something back for me.” Relaxing a little, Alessio fidgeted with his hand, drawing little circles on his knees with soothing repetition. “He gave me my bow when I was nine.”
Alessio wished he had it now, it would’ve been nice to show it to her (and to shoot Nathair). It was intricately designed – or it was, most of the patterns were worn out and carefully scraped off to make it look less valuable – but it was modeled of Thayer’s bow, from vigilante ballets that were his favorite growing up. Mostly because, there was a hero out there, who protected the weak.
In most of the stories, Thayer was someone abuse victims would seek out for restitution. He was scarier than the monsters.
