If you like superheroes, the Daredevil comic series by Mark Waid is clean! Vol. 2 gets a little weird for a bit (supernatural-style weird), but overall it’s really good! I also really liked The Defenders: Diamonds are Forever (which censors cussing).
To piggyback on @rose-colored-fancy‘s recommendation, Scott McCloud’s book “Understanding Comics” is also really good! I really appreciated it just from a writer’s perspective, and I imagine it’s even more helpful in an actual comic-writing context.
Oh! And as webcomics go, the only one I’ve started reading is The Silver Eye by Laura Hollingsworth. I’ve found the storyline a little hard to follow? It seems to jump around on the timeline a bit and get confusing. But I generally like the characters and the art and the worldbuilding.
I wish I could recommend The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill, but unfortunately the one problem I had with that one was the same issue you’re specifically trying to avoid. It’s super disappointing it has that (fairly minor, but present) thread in it, because it’s excellent besides that. XP
