Well, he hadn’t really expected her to have a lot of fighting experience anyway.

“I…I’ve only been a messenger.” She said “Riding a horse from outpost to outpost. I had a dagger, but…All of us knew it wouldn’t do any good, if caught. It isn’t really a stable job.”

Alright, she’d be used to the feel of a knife that’d be the best place to start. Even then, she probably didn’t know anything about how to use it.

“No. I’ve never learned how to use a weapon.” She admitted, almost guiltily as if it was her fault nobody took the time to actually teach her basic self-defense before they put her in a dangerous situation.

Alessio nodded thoughtfully, and took her hand shaping it into a fist.

“You need your thumb outside of your fist, so you don’t break your hand throwing a punch, your feet need to be spaced enough for balance but not far enough it hampers your movement, like that –“ He gave her pointers until she had a close approximation to a fighting stance. “Now, show me how you throw a punch.”

Her hair was too long and her clothes were too loose – there was so much someone could grab her by. He’d also need to assess how well she could throw normal objects to see if they’d have time to teach her how to throw a knife or if he’d need to stick to simple slashes.
