Yes…” Nathair said. “And we should probably leave this area soon before the authorities come.”
Caleb looked at the bar just in time to see a draker turn someone into a pancake against a wall.
“Actually, Snake-Punk has a good point. Let’s do that first.”
“Um, the bartender wants some compensation for the fight you started Nathair.”
He was ignored. Caleb looked back at the bar. Someone got hit in the head with a chair. Like he probably would be. Why did he have to be stuck with this group?
“Come on Search! We need to get moving!”
“I know. Where can we go? Oh, is there a good restaurant near here?”
“There was but…” started Caleb as he turned to the bar again.
You know what, forget it. Even if he did get the money, the chances of him getting a job locally were probably shot. Slinking away while he had the chance might be for the best at the moment. Getting this group on a ship might be a problem but he could cross that gap when he got there.
“Excuse me ma’am. Could you tell us where the port is?”
The lady at the counter looked him over and looked at the bar.
“Got to skip town huh.”
“Unfortunately, I am not blessed with… the uhm most civil companions.” This was not good.
She looked him over again.
“Well son, the closest port is Whitehall. But mind you with the jetstream about, no one is heading north.”
“I know. I just need a place to wait for it to pass.”
She seemed to understand his position. Her eyes were kind now.
“It should only take you a day walking.”
“Thank you, ma’am.”
“Watch out for strong gusts. You’ll blow off the island if you aren’t careful.”
“We will.”
Leading the way out, Caleb found the signpost. Hiding his face from the bar windows, he started off in a brisk trot.
