Leana reined up beside the field hospital, and swung from the saddle. She tripped toward the tent, passing the reins to a solider. Her thighs ached, and her cheeks were rosy from the cool wind. But when she pulled back the tent flap, intending to report her message, she found herself stepping into an opulent hallway from behind a window curtain.

Leana’s jaw dropped as her feet sank into a thick carpet, running the length of the hall. Strange candles glowed bright as the sun, from the ceiling. Doors ran along both sides. There was a group of people, standing and bickering, in the middle of it. One was firmly shaking his head, legs planted wide like he expected to be dragged someplace. All men. The roar of more people came from, likely, a larger space behind them.

Leana licked her lips, and fisted her hands, clutching her navy woolen skirt. What in Zounds?
