*winces* let me know how bad this is…

The evening was still. This part of the city seemed calm, but where there were heroes, there are always villains. Not everything is as it seems. Even people with the best intentions, could be traitors.

From his position in the shadows of a building, Kenem watched as the afternoon faded to evening.

This world is broken, but is there really only one way to create the change we need? Is there a better way to go about this? One’s that’s less shadows and games, and more honesty and hope?

There are no bonds from keeping the Rooks from our goal, not a single obstacle they aren’t prepared to hurtle. But does it really have to come at such a price? Is the death and pain really worth it? Would it really help create peace?

Peace in our time. . . Imagine that.

Kenem shook his head to clear his thoughts, Reza was expecting him, and there was no knowing what she might do if she found out about his wonderings.

She fully supported the Rook’s cause, giving her all, and doing her best to have Kenem follow in her footsteps, after that terrible fire. . . No. Kenem forced himself to pay attention to the task at hand, there were more important things than getting stuck in the past. Like what Reza would do if he was late.

He scanned the building in front of him. Why on earth had she chosen the hardest building to climb? He couldn’t exactly go inside and ask to use the stairs to the roof.

But there was nothing he loved more than a challenge.

Six minutes and twenty-three seconds later, he was on the roof, gasping for air. He had never been one to take the easy way, always preferring to struggle, to gain the experience.

His face had always been his betrayal, his one downfall, but years of pain had taught him how to mask his true emotions. How to react one way while feeling differently.

The instant his feet touched the roof, his face transformed into an unreadable mask.

“What took you so long?” a voice asked, and Kenem looked over to see Reza, standing with her back to him.

She acted completely unconcerned, her voice betraying no emotion. Was she upset? Was she disappointed? There was no way to tell.

“Meeting took longer than it should’ve,” Kenem said, “You also chose a very hard place to get to.”

    Hope this works for ya!
