Heyo, it’s Inkspiller, who has been absent FOREVER.
Rough personal stuff, followed by the insane rush to try and finish my boss’s book + my adventure book + actually find time to edit the third book + commissioning artwork and redesigning a lot of characters so that WE CAN DO THE ARTWORK + my own laziness and lack of discipline…..
It’s been a while.
But, I wrote a story a while back (not finished) and I just spent today transcribing the first half of it to the computer while also improving on the original writing, and I was wondering if someone (somebodies?) could gimme a quick critique on it. I can’t see my own deficiencies very well, but I know they’re there. I also want to make sure that my work isn’t overly self-serious, or at least plays off its seriousness well.
I’m kinda bad at writing the young-adult genre, happy-go-lucky fun, millennial humor, banter comedy, so… my writing sometimes (re: constantly) turns sorta morbid.
Basic premise – this is one of a series of short stories I’m working on as a prequel to my medieval historical fantasy novel, Rest for the Wicked, covering each of the ancillary characters and their relationship to Lady Kyreleis von Gottsringen, the MC of the actual novel. I think I’m addicted to anti-heroes, so please don’t take me for a misanthropic sociopath. The idea of the novel + stories is to take characters from their original place of darkness, sin, evil, and their journey towards either redemption by grace – or their rejection of grace.
That said, if you think I’m presenting people who most readers, secular or Christian, would find irredeemable, let me know. I have a tendency to go overboard with character flaws.
Content warning: there is a sort of gory scene across the second and third pages. No foul language though; I’m strict on historical authenticity, and they just didn’t have cuss words like we do today. @Northerner correct me if I’m wrong.
