The fact that we’re not living for this life does not mean our life here is pointless. Do you think our all-powerful, loving God would leave you here to suffer if your life wasn’t worth living?
Yes, absolutely, because He has given humans the free will to corrupt perfect creation into a sinful world. I do not believe it is God’s will that one hundred and twenty-five thousand unborn children die every day. Did God simply have no plans for their lives, and did he dedicate them to death before birth, or is it the sin of humans that caused it? I guess theologically we have to say “both.”
But I know what you mean. It’s what everyone means. It’s probably right. It doesn’t make living any easier.
I’m terrified at the end of my life I’m going to feel like a Jonah, having spent it doing God’s will maybe without fully realizing it, and looking back on it all as a life of misery and pain. Like Jonah, I’ll just be a selfish and petty human whose life is insignificant compared to the fact that glory came to God, but I guess in the end that’s all that does matter.
