    So glad it helped!

I also agree with Elisha about the characters. Though I definitely caught the hint that those characters are important and expected to see them again later on, they were a bit confusing. I don’t know much about flashbacks and when/how to use them well, but I think that could be a great help.

I don’t know if this would work for your story, but maybe you could keep Ari in Karis a little longer and give her time to wander around and look at the wreckage. You could weave in a lot of backstory in there as she’s remembering what Karis once was, and what she once did there with her friends. It would also serve as one of those quiet reaction scenes. But again, I’m not sure if you need her to leave right away or not.

In a book I read recently, there are several flashback chapters towards the beginning, and I thought it was done really well. There is an italicized note under the heading of each chapter where the timeline switches. It jumped back and forth several times, but each transition flowed smoothly and there was no confusion at all. (It also helped that the flashback scenes were in past tense, while the rest were in present.) All that to say, flashback chapters in between can be done really well when there’s important story to be shown.

But yeah, like Elisha said, definitely let me know when you’ve written them! 😀
