@taylorclogston It’s funny that you think the protagonist of Fawkes is unlikable, since one of my friends likes him and she has a pretty consistent track record of disliking protagonists, many of whom are similar to him. (For me, protagonists have to be pretty downright despicable or pancake-flat and way underdeveloped for me to not at least empathize with them, so I’m not a good measuring stick in that regard. :P) I’m interested in what you think made the first chapter weak. Would you mind sharing after SE does their series?
@evelyn Yay, glad you were able to sort out the problems with you WIP! I’m excited to hear more about this now. And congratulations on your sonnet! 😉
What I read: I started Dreamlander by K.M. Weiland. I’m barely halfway through, so I’ll wait till next time to comment on it.
What I wrote: I started the first draft of Dahop’s Ember, book one in The Alpha Saga (yep, I’m back to it!). I got a little over 2,000 words in. It’s going sooo slowly, but I think I’m picking up the pace a bit. After spending three days on the first 500 words, I completely abandoned all pursuit of good prose. And I know it sounds terrible, but I’m really proud of myself. It’s a huge accomplishment for a hopeless perfectionist. 😛
What I learned:
- How to use direct object pronouns in Spanish.
- A whole bunch of stuff about plant anatomy.
- Five key questions to use to gently break down someone’s worldview.
- A million other amazing things about the authenticity of Scripture and other such things.
- That homeschool conferences are probably one of best places in the world to have awkward run-ins with people from way back in your past that shock back a ton of memories and leave you wondering where on earth time went.
- And finally, that when your best friend and your mother tell you over and over that you should go back to a certain WIP that you decided to set aside but can’t stop talking about, you probably should listen to them and not waste seven months running after other WIPs that keep disappointing you when you have a perfectly good one sitting there and begging you to write it. xD I shall not be making that mistake again.
