@taylorclogston Are you still looking for critique on your novella? It sounded like you hadn’t had much feedback, so I’d be happy to read it and give you my thoughts. I don’t have much experience with alpha reading, but I’m willing to give it my best shot if you’re willing to be my critiquing guinea pig. 😛 (Although it may take a week or two because I’m busy with school.)

I would love to see K.M. Weiland do a book on series writing too. One of my WIPs is a rather large series, and I’ve been wondering about things like how to keep the overarching theme (hope) from getting “worn out” by the end, and how to relate the themes of individual books to that without them feeling either disconnected or forced. A lot of the instruction out there can easily be applied to a trilogy or short series, but I’m not exactly sure how to work it out in mine.

What I read: I read the first two books in Nadine Brandes’ Out of Time Trilogy over Christmas break, and they were more amazing than all the fans I’ve come across let on. The only problem is, now I’ll have to wait a while to read the last one. xD

Right now I’m reading Uncle Tom’s Cabin for school.

What I wrote: I did some plotting for my WIP The Last Resort over break, and then got distracted by another idea for the past two weeks. I’ll be going back to TLR this week, but the unnamed WIP is still demanding for attention. xD

    What I learned:

    • Thanks to a character role play my friend and I have been doing, I learned that Lotro and Terut (two of my characters from The Alpha Saga) will never stop arguing if you put them in the same room together.
    • You shouldn’t let water that has honey in it boil over and get all over the stove.
    • I started up a character profile spreadsheet and learned that all of my protagonists over the past three years have had green eyes. All of them. I have no idea why, but apparently I just happened to imagine them all that way. I probably should change a few of them. xD
    • All my reading, writing, and schoolwork have greatly limited my physical activity, and my fitness watch has revealed the sad truth that my grandmother takes three times more steps a day than I do.

Other: My goals for this week are to (1) write a plot outline for The Last Resort, (2) not get distracted by the unnamed WIP, and (3) write a snippet thing of around 1,000 words to help figure out some issues I’m having with my protagonist’s voice.

How are you all doing with your goals?
