“I’m going on ahead,” He says in hardly a voice at all, “if anyone wants to join me.”

“Wait,” Jericho called, catching his hand.  “Do not go out alone.  Please.  Wait a moment more.”

She strode back to where Alessio and Nithel had placed Brendin on the bed with Alessio’s wrist still firmly in her grasp.  “You misunderstand,” she murmured.

With a strong tug Jericho tossed back the sheet.  Brendin still lay, inert, but color lingered in his face.  The Shakti still followed around him; weaker than it had, admittedly, but it yet flowed.

The woman gently placed a hand on his shoulder.  “Wake, my friend.”

Brendin stirred, almost imperceptibly at first, but it soon became clear that there was still life in his limbs.  He sat up slowly and glanced around at the others.  “Hello again.”
