@selah-chelyah Yeah, I saw that and had to laugh because @parker ‘s comment ended in basically the same way, haha. Oh, well, I suppose I shall add a new addition 🙂
I was a prince, therefore I must rescue the princess.
It seemed a little ridiculous–sending the heir to the throne out into the wilds of the forest with no one but his manservant as company. Apparently, I was the only one who saw any problem with it, so there I was. Off to rescue my damsel in distress like every other boring prince before me.
We rode through the woods on a small path, little more than an elk path. Why, I didn’t know. No one seemed to know why such a dangerous mission was to happen. I knew the princess needed rescuing, but why me and basically only me?
Last I checked, it was the knights who saved princesses, right? Nope, just me. A royal prince who’s going to be king next. But you’re not reading to hear me complain about my job, are you now?
As we rode along, I heard something, or at least I thought I did. Joel (the aforementioned manservant) said he didn’t hear anything. But there was something.
At first, it was just a whisper, a faint breath of a sound. Then the leaves began to sway, the flowers began to dance, and the horse under me whinnied uneasily. My heart beat with anticipation as I strained my ears to the sound. The sound grew louder, and I realized I was clenching the reins with white fingers. The noise grew louder, the skies grew dark and ominous, and the wind sped up, threatening to wrench me off my horse. There was something coming!
“Prince Edmund!” There was alarm in Joel`s voice as he grabbed my arm. “A tornado! Run!” I jumped from my horse, clenched the reins and pulled my faithful charger behind me as I dove for cover under the bushes that bordered the path. As we hurled ourselves as far as possible under the leafy shrubs, I turned back to look in the direction of the roaring tornado and gasped. “No!”
I blinked. No, I wasn’t imagining it. There she was, the Princess Morgana, tied to a tree. I heard her scream. The wind yanked branches off the tree. One hit her in the face. She was bleeding. Her dress was torn, her beautiful black hair was windswept.
I stood up. I knew I should rush to her side, save her just in the nick of time. But my feet wouldn’t move. The wind howled about me, the storm getting closer and closer. Still, I could not will my feet to move.
I had to move– I had to help her– A huge gust of wind slammed full into my chest and sent me staggering back, wrenching my cry from my lips before it could become audible. I reached out, groping for something to hold onto, but the ground dropped away from beneath my feet and I went tumbling downward.
I winced as my body rolled into a patch of thorns. The razor-sharp points jabbed at my back and tore into my clothing. The wind calmed a little, and I straightened up to the best of my abilities, the thorns attempting to keep me down. Ignoring the stings, I stepped forward. Instantly, another gust of wind struck my chest and threw me to the ground.
I pushed my legs to crawl toward the princess. She was watching me with a painful expression.
“Who are you?” she called above the winds. “Are you my prince?”
I scrambled for the most noble words I could think of. “Yes, my lady… I have come to rescue you!”
