Rubbing his eyes, trying to get them to quit stinging, he folded his wings over his head. He didn’t like this place. He didn’t like that huge burning thing in the sky.

So Riley is from our world and was dropped into Ben and Llewellyn’s world. There his doppelganger (a hero called Restoration) decided that since Dominic (bad bad villain girl) had crippled him Riley would take his place so the world wouldn’t lose hope in heroes.
