Marooned in a different time, Meredith Wright, also known as the Valkyrie, struggles to adapt to her destiny. Her uncle’s last gifts to her were a terrifying fate and a responsibility she didn’t want. The one constant in her life is the Portland Division, and she’s haunted by the possibility of losing them.

Meanwhile, Westwell is on the brink of war. This is nothing new, but Northing, Westwell’s sworn enemy, is planning something. There’s a risk that they might uncover something that could tip the balance of the war.

When Westwell’s council assigns her friend Damien a near-suicide spy mission to discover Northing’s plan, Meredith goes instead. But the task of facing the most powerful city in the land proves to be a heavy task- perhaps too heavy even for the Valkyrie.
