Well, I had possibly awesome idea a few weeks ago and finally got a chance to do some experimenting. Can’t wait to hear what you have for me!
Zerenity smiled in relief as she tucked the Star Stone into her pack.
The bells of Serenfaen had not yet sounded. That meant she still had time.
A soft footfall from behind her sent Zerenity spinning into a low stance, knife drawn. It was a Seer. Galaethau, She had been caught!
“What are you planning to do with that?” the seer’s voice was soft on Zerenity’s ears.
“I need it,” she said and her excuse sounded lame, even to her own ears and conscious. Shaking her head she turned to the robe clad figure standing in the temple doorway. “What is it to you anyway, Wise One? It’s only a rock.”
“True,” the seer chuckled and her pale hands calmly folded into her robes, “But why steal when you can but ask for what you desire?”
“Like you would willingly give one of these up,” Zerenity growled as she shook the bag containing the object in question. “Like you could even care.”
“We have many Stars gathered here,” the Seer replied, her shaven head nodding, “What is one less?”
“That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard all day,” Zerenity snorted. “The Seers never part with their treasures willingly. Never. Not even if the world were about to end.”
“Is it?” the Seer asked with genuine curiosity.
Zerenity shook her head and slung the bag onto her back, “That’s what we’d like to know, but, as you well know, the Seers are… stingy with their prophecies.” Lifting the long blade she still held Zerenity motioned the strangely talkative Seer to the side. “Unless you are a spy or a rebel, I suggest you move. I have a deadline. Literally.”
“I am,” the girl hesitated, “not always in full agreement with the newer ways of the Seers.” she gazed down at her bare feet. “they have strayed from their original purpose.” her head lifted again and she offered a small smile, “I am sorry I cannot help you more.” Then she stepped aside, leaving Zerenity’s escape rout open.
“I will not sound the bells,” the girl said softly. “For I do care, Zerenity Seren, and this world will need many Stars before it is no longer this whole of darkness.”
Nodding her thanks, Zerenity raced through the stone doorway and into the glowing halls of the temple. She glanced back over her shoulder only once to see the Seer’s hand raised in a silent blessing.
Slipping past the guards and other Seers wandering the temple grounds Zerenity followed her mental chart to the west wing and up the same staircase she had descended less than an hour before. She had just reached the welcome sight of Starglass when the bells of Serenfaen began to toll.
Had the Seer lied? She doubted it. The girl had seemed nice enough and she had trusted her with a star stone.
Besides, what other choice did they have at this point.
