What are three things you know about characters?
1. It’s important to make your character relatable to the reader in some way even if it’s small, because otherwise they wont feel the connection to the story that we search to give them.
2. They need to be believable as people or humans, even if they are aliens or something, so that your reader doesn’t disconnect from the story and not know exactly why.
3. And 9/10 times the mentor character will die 😛

What are three things you’d like to know about characters?
1. How much depth and detail in a character’s voice is to much? (Specifically when writing in a voice that is *not* first person.)
2. What is a happy medium between making the side characters matter and making them overshadow the main characters?
3. Can a villain be too bad for a MC? (Can one make their villain too evil for the setting or plot or the actual character, to the point where they are unrealistic?)

What do you believe the crafting of characters has to do with powerful writing?
The characters are what gives our stories life and meaning for others who will read them. The characters are what change and grow and make mistakes, but in the end we can look up and see that in some small way we’ve made the same journey and the same mistakes and learned the same lessons they did. A bland or half worked out character will always make for a bland and half worked out story.

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being appalling, 10 being stunning) how well do you think you write characters?
(This one was harder to answer 🙂 ) I think I do a fairly decent job, but with plenty of room for improvement. So that could put me anywhere from 4-6or7… I haven’t really had that much outside feedback on my characters (indirectly or specifically (though it’s kinda my fault for not asking..*nervous laugh*)) I guess I would say about a 6, but I am also willing to be put down a little lower if someone points it out! 😉
