I waited until I was sure Aydin was asleep before getting up. He somehow managed to sleep sitting up which was impressive in and of itself but I was fairly sure it was a left-over instinct from his time with the assassins, which always sent a pang of pain through me.

Aydin almost never relaxed and there was nothing I could do to change that, no matter how much I wanted to. I knew almost nothing about what had happened with him while he had been an assassin, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to know. It still hurt him every day and I hated them for that.

I looked up. A man with an almost colorless appearance but jet-black clothing was looking right at me. I glared right back, looking him directly in the eye with something that wasn’t hostility but certainly could be if he kept going.

What was with the all black? Was he trying to show off how rich he was, or did he just like looking like a ghost?

A short woman joined him and shot him a decidedly disgruntled look. I grinned at both of them, half mocking, half friendly.

The man was extremely tall, but not altogether bad-looking.

He was still gawping at me in a rather amusing manner. Was he shocked to see a girl with weapons? He was in for a nasty surprise.

“Lost your tongue?” I asked, shooting him a sharp grin.
