“I was asking Brin,” Gwen said.

“Were you really expecting her to answer?” I shot back.

“Here’s the next riddle,” The castle repeated.

“I can be harnessed, but never caught.  Try your hardest, I will care not. I will grow and I will die, forever moving free. I will roam, both far and wide . Chains cannot contain me. What am I?”

“Okay, another inanimate object,” I commented. “Probably another element, by the sound of it. ‘chains cannot contain me.’ Clouds, maybe?” I twirled my braid between my fingers, still petting Brin with my other hand. She was warm and silky, and it made me feel better.

“Clouds can’t really be harnessed though unless you count the use we get out of rain. Maybe…” I trailed off, thinking.

“Wind? Or rivers? They dry up in summer and grow in winter. They often branch out and form new streams,” I suggested.
