Lorcan knew from the moment he laid eyes on her brightly coloured hair and scowl that she was going to be a problem.

asdfghjkl that made me think of that one audio XD that perfectly applies to Cal LOLL!!!

(“A girl doesn’t dye her hair that color unless she has psychological problems.” “My hair color has nothing to do with my psychological problems!!!”)

Okay, I can’t just leave it at that I have to leave a quick reply XD This is fantastic XD

    Calliope

He smirked, and I had the sudden undeniable urge to smack it off his face. He had no right to smirk.

“Relax. I call everyone sweetheart. Or a ghrá. Or eejit. Depends on what mood I’m in,” he said, easily.

“It’s a bad habit, I suggest breaking it before someone breaks it for you,” I said, bluntly. “While you work on that, I would vastly prefer the latter over the former.”

I was not letting him get away with that excuse.

Ophelia looked at me worriedly, though she tried to force a smile that was as fake as her lashes.

“Besides Lorcan?” He tilted his head as though deep in thought, then shrugged, with another of his infuriatingly smug smiles. “A lot of things actually. But I’m mostly know for possessing a particular set of skills. Unpleasant work, but it gets food on the table.”

I scoffed. Out loud. Did he mean to scare me? To impress me? I was neither. He had no power over me there or anywhere else. My opinions were my own, and I would not be manipulated by public opinion.

Public opinion was fickle and two-faced. Another reason not to trust the undeniably popular Ophelia. She was as artificial as the porcelain dolls she resembled.

“Is that supposed to impress me or scare me?” I asked, giving my thoughts full access to my words, as usual.

“And who are you? Besides Cal?”

I grinned, but it felt more like a dare than anything else. He wanted to judge me, and I didn’t care. I had once, and I never would again. People could think what they wanted, they could judge me as whatever they pleased. I would never conform to be like them.

“Who do you think I am?” It sounded like a challenge. Now I turned to Ophelia, who was watching us with round, curious eyes.

“How about you, Ophelia? Who do you think I am?”

She looked down and examined her nails in what looked like a nervous habit to buy time. Or perhaps that was just of greater interest than I was.

    She smiled, uncertainly.

“You’re in the same Latin class as Athena.”

I threw up my hands as though all my questions had been answered.

“There, you see, Lorcan? I am in the same Latin class as Athena.” I said her name as though it was rotten, which it was to me. “Doesn’t that answer every question you’ve ever had about me?”

Ophelia’s smile faded, then returned, sheepish this time.

    “Wrong answer?” she said, timidly.

    I rolled my eyes.
