    @inkhorn

    I love Ophelia and Athena already (Ophelia especially)!

    That’s awesome! I have to ask, what made you like them? I’m having trouble getting attached to them, especially Athena XD

    @merieshenanigans

    I’ve never joined a roleplay as detailed and descriptive as this kind, so… xD Forgive me for feeling slightly daunted. I will do my best to keep up though! (And your characters all seem so much fun!)

    That’s totally fine! It’s a big learning curve, but as soon as you figure it out it’s really fun! Don’t worry about the quality of your writing at all, as long as you have fun it’s perfect!

    And don’t worry about replying quickly, there are always long interludes in these RP’s XD Sometimes everyone just… vanishes for like a month XD

    Ophelia

    “Bonum scuti!” the man said, spinning around. His voice squeaked higher than he’d expected and he looked rather embarrassed.

    Athena couldn’t let that go without comment.

    “It should be ‘Bonum scutum’. ‘Shield’ is the subject, so it’s in nominativus, and the adjective matches the noun in tense, case, and gender,” she said, without even looking up.

    I smiled at the man rather sheepishly, wishing Athena hadn’t brought it up. Perhaps she was right, but it wasn’t necessary to correct him.

    “I’m sorry, did I startle you?” I asked.

    The man smiled stiffly and bowed. He was supremely uncomfortable.

    “Y-yes, you d-did startle me.”

    He had a stammer and he was obviously extremely aware of it. I pointedly ignored it and pretended I hadn’t heard anything out of the ordinary.

    “And I’m n-not the owner of this…establishment.”

    He looked at me rather uncertainly and I smiled even wider. It was one thing I’d learned. If you aren’t sure what you’re doing, just smile and hope nobody notices.

    Someone had to take the initiative and he obviously wasn’t going to.

    I reached out to shake his hand.

    “I’m Ophelia, pleased to meet you!”

    He stared at me as though I was suggesting something quite ridiculous. Thankfully I was wearing enough blush that he wouldn’t notice my embarrassment.

    “I’m Conroy Flinston. A pleasure to make your acquaintance,” he said.

    I always hated figuring out what to say after introductions, so I said the first thing that came to mind.

    “That’s a nice name! For some reason, my parents decided to name me after that character in Hamlet, though I don’t make a habit of dying dramatically after being driven into madness.”

    I grinned and as though to disprove my own point, I sat down in one of the large leather chairs by collapsing in a dramatic, long-practiced imitation of fainting.

    Athena didn’t even look up, she was long used to my habit.

    Conroy looked extremely startled and I grinned, shaking back my curls and kicking my feet over the armrest so I sprawled in the chair elegantly. ‘Fainting’ was more fun than sitting down any other way and other people’s reactions just made it better.

    I admired my shoes, dark pink heeled slippers that tied up with ribbons around my ankles. I mindlessly dug in my purse and pulled out lip-gloss.

    This was bad. I had no idea where we were, and something about this whole place was spectacularly off.

    The gloss tasted of strawberries and anxiety as I tried to figure out what had happened.

    I didn’t trust Conroy. He didn’t seem dangerous, necessarily, but he seemed like he didn’t belong here. Moreso, like he had never belonged here.

    I glanced over at Athena. She didn’t seem worried. She stood reading, her glasses slipping to the tip of her nose as she bent over the thick book.

    I was going to give this a while longer, but if anything went wrong I was ready to make a gracious exit. Until then, I would valiantly act as though nothing was wrong.
