I have random thoughts to add!
It’s weird because I really enjoyed TLJ while watching it, but every time I think back on it, I like it less and less. XD
It’s entertaining to watch, I’ll give it that.
It feels like they completely erased the victories of the original three movies, though, only to replace them with a similar, but lesser storyline. The scale even feels so much smaller. Like, the whole rebellion is just a few hundred people all in one place in TLJ, as opposed to a network of bases and people all struggling together against a massive empire. More like a riot in one city than a rebellion.
I know a lot of people complain about this, but I can’t help but wish they’d taken some ideas from the Extended Universe. =P So like, instead of going back to the old rebellion vs empire storyline, they went to bigger problems the new Alliance would face as it struggled with its place organizing and keeping order in the galaxy. (Like the Thrawn Trilogy… =P) So it would feel like the first three movies meant something, like we’ve moved somewhere, and less like we’re stuck in an endless cycle, never gaining any ground and always doing the same thing again and again.
But then again, maybe that’s a theme they wanted to use… =o
One thing it did very well, though, in my opinion, was the visual effects. Some of that stuff was impressive!
So overall, while watching it, I’d probably give it a 5-6 for enjoyability. And while thinking about it at any other time, maybe a 3-4. =P
Anyway, sorry for popping into this discussion out of nowhere (and talking more about the SW series as a whole than TLJ specifically…) I just spotted it and decided on random impulse to throw these thoughts out there. =P
