  • @karthmin It’s really good to hear that another serious writer also does a lot of Not Actually Writing Things. I often times find it hard to motivate myself to write when I am the only one depending on me. There are no immediate consequences to Not Writing, and I have other things I want to do. Obviously, there are consequences such as the story not getting written, and I don’t improve my writing ability, but those aren’t always big enough to motivate me. I don’t get any more benefit from doing it now instead of doing it later.

What I find is best helps me write is doing it right after I finish my schoolwork (I’m homeschooled), and treating it like it is school. I can’t just not do school when I don’t feel like it. Sometimes after I finish schoolwork I think “My brain is dead. I’m going to watch a couple of YouTube videos to relax and then start writing.” THAT IS A BAD IDEA. It’s harder to start writing once I have started my recreational activities.
