    Hi @taylorclogston,

I’m not sure the age of everyone here but yes I may be one of the “Ancient Ones”.  [ha!]
I am writing because I don’t have much time left this side of heaven. [Just kidding.]
I think the profile that I filled out reflects that, though I don’t see it displayed.
According to the statistics, I fall smack dab in the middle of the Gen X’ers.
One thing I have learned is that I have a lot more to learn–if that makes any sense.  I had been writing stories since I was a kid, and at some point, I stopped and thought I was putting away childish things [1 Corinthians 13:11], but I found out that God invests interest in us that have a purpose that we should not just dismiss as foolish or childish.  I found out something about the Lord that I had missed.  God wraps your gift in the passions He invested in you.
But enough about me.  Boring subject.

What about you?  What drives you to write?  What jazzes you?  What part of the gift God has placed in you are you exploring for His glory?  What genres fall in your wheelhouse of preferences?

One of the main things I have seen in reading, movies, TV Shows and writing is a gradual shift of genres towards either hopelessness, brutality with no moral offset, and a separation of human beings from connecting with fellow humans.  We are living in a seismic shift towards nihilism, and I wanted to find a community of faith-based writers who we committed to taking back fiction from the world.

It strikes me that the seminal writers that affected generations of fantasy writers (Tolkien and Lewis) were both believers in Sovereign God.

It strikes me that Jules Verne was a believer and he greatly affected generations of science fiction writers to come.

Seeing where these fantastic stories began and where they have gone, it also struck me that somewhere along the way, Christians who had interest in these genres may have been caught up in the lie that they should avoid these genres for something more “adult”, “mature”, or whatever appellation they mistakenly characterized these as, and in so doing Christians quite choosing these genres to write in, and so ceded them to atheists, agnostics and “secular” writers to delve in.

As a kid, I loved those fantasy and science fiction fantasies but found that I was hard-pressed to find faith-based authors writing them or treating them seriously.

There is a widening gap in these genres between these stories and faith-based writers that I wanted to address so that a future me might be able to find that at least I didn’t give up these genres to the Enemy.

So I am here.  Joining you all, who seem to share this interest in these kinds of genres, committing to close the gap and shine a light right into the darkness and charge forward.
