@cassandraia It wasn’t that they were too dark. Ted Dekker writes darker stuff than Steven James. But Ted Dekker’s stuff doesn’t bother me (except for Showdown – that one was just creepy).

I think it’s the fact that he makes being a pathological killer look attractive. At least on some level. The Bowers Files made me look inside myself, and deep inside, I saw the potential to become the villain. And it didn’t bother me. That’s what scared me. So I stopped reading them.

He says he tries to portray evil as it is, and not glorify it, but I think he failed. I think he did show it as it is, but only in part. If you’re going to show evil, then you have to show all of it. Don’t take the edges off it. Show it as painful as it really is. Make the reader dread going through it.

Like Ted Dekker does. 🙂
