How old were you when you started writing?

I’m not entirely sure. 10? 11? I was inspired by my older sister (the one who inspired me to pursue pretty much everything I enjoy now) and decided to start making up my own stories.

I started out thinking like everyone else:

    Plot, Characters, Theme, Setting, etc.

But somewhere along the line my thinking reset. I think of stories as entities now. With all the elements working together to prove a single point, or to present a single question. And none of the elements could be singled out and changed without disrupting the whole thing.

This epiphany freed me to write short, but complete stories. I have completed 4 such stories. The word count growing with each successive one.

Do you want to pursue a career in writing, or do you write just for fun?

If I’m going to be making money off my stories, I think I would rather go with writing movies than novels.

The stories are shorter, and therefore easier for me to “visualize” the whole thing. Plus, it seems to me like writing and helping to produce/direct movies would be more fun than only writing novels.

Whatever I end up making my living at, I want to enjoy it. So in that sense, I’m with @GirlSetFree: “A fun career“.

What are some of your biggest spiritual struggles when it comes to writing?

    I don’t want to write.

I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out what my biggest struggle is, and everything I’ve come up points to that part of me that doesn’t want to write.

I tell myself that I should be spending time with my family, doing … something. I don’t know what. So I sit around and do nothing out of guilt.

I tell myself that I need to get caught up with my Youtube subscriptions. So I watch videos on my computer when I should be writing.

I tell myself I need to finish reading a book or get caught up with the movie scripts I’ve downloaded. So I spend all my writing time for the day reading.

Or I tell myself that I need to practice piano, or I need to notate my arrangement, or I want to watch a movie…

You know. It goes on forever.

And I have to squeeze all that between the non-negotiables: meals, family bible reading, work, and sleep. So my sleep and my meals have been suffering simply because the other things aren’t in my control.

But I have stories. Stories that only I would ever think of. Stories that only I can tell.

So I’m compelled to write. I only wish I would choose writing more often.

I guess that’s just life for you.

    Maybe I can change.
