🙂 Thanks for this post, it’s a good reminder. Although since I don’t live alone, I’m subconsciously being held to a standard that keeps me responsible for my other duties aside from writing. Keeps me balanced, things would be a little different if I lived alone. 🙂
But actually right now my biggest struggle to be healthy has nothing to do with writing, but has been prompted by a natural doctor. I have been given a challenge. A certain irritation in my body required me to change my eating habits which I had honestly thought before this were really good! Minimal junk food, and plenty of veggies, I was even eating salad which I dislike. But apparently my body is having a hard time breaking down certain foods such as processed sugars, gluten, and veggies in the Nightshade family. (That apparently means tomatoes, potatoes, and every kind of pepper even if it isn’t spicy.) Imagine my surprise when I was informed that I couldn’t have certain veggies anymore, that they were actually bad for me. Veggies that were bad for me? That can happen?!! I thought to myself. Here I had thought the only veggies that were bad for me were the salads I disliked so much.
So for the past month, I have been struggling to avoid processed food of all kinds, normal flour, and every tomato based product, potatoes and peppers, even non-spicy ones. It’s terrifying how sugar and tomatoes are pretty much everywhere. Unfortunately salads are still good for me so I have no excuse to avoid them. Cooking has been a blend of interesting experiments with more unusual veggies that I can have, coconut flour, and learning how I can make healthy desserts. It’s been a struggle at times, but a interesting challenge at others. I like food, especially dessert, so I have been learning a lot of recipes that I can make.
The irritation has been leaving me alone which is a relief, but my goal is not to just stay irritation free it’s to repair what is wrong with my body, and to enjoy meals again. 🙂 This is my life now and I”m determined to enjoy it just as I did my life before it. Things have been going well. A week ago, I actually had my four sisters-in-law over for two days, and was able to serve them things I had around the house that I couldn’t eat and didn’t want wasted. And I had made plenty of food for myself beforehand so I wasn’t tempted by what they were eating. Everyone had a good time, and I was able to send the rest of the food home with them so it wouldn’t be wasted, and yet would be far away from me.
So if anyone wants to know anything about healthy eating, or making any diet changes, feel free to ask me any new questions about one of my current favorite hobby. 🙂
