I agree that the “old” weekly discussions were a lot of fun. I think part of what made them so was that it allowed us to express our understanding of certain subjects through discussion. It allowed a bit more of a “Socratic” learning method, gleaning insights from each other’s opinions, rather than a more “academic” approach of reading something then offering a comment and/or personal application of it (not that the latter way is bad at all 🙂 ).

I think something question-based would be the best way to proceed forward with discussions. Sort of like our Weekly Wonderings, or centered on writing. Each week we could post some sort of writing question. Maybe it’s a question regarding a specific dilemma one of us is dealing with, or just a common but important writing question. Maybe it’s just our opinion on a specific bit of controversial writing advice. I think it would be something that anyone could participate in regardless of how much they know about writing; just thinking up an answer and reading other people’s answers can really help you learn, no matter how long you’ve been writing for.
